Equinoxes and Detoxes
The equinoxes, spring, and fall, are times of potent shifts in the seasonal foods that support us. In the spring, we change from warming foods and spices to the bitter greens that grow from cool soils. In the fall, we move from fresh meals of uncooked vegetables to nourishing soups and stews with squashes and bone broths.
They’re the perfect time to take a detox and help your body release the excesses of the previous season and prepare for the shifting energy leading to high-summer and mid-winter.
The equinoxes are also a time of balance. With the hours of day and night equal, we find we seek equilibrium in our bodies as well.
I like this advice from the Ayurveda tradition when it comes to using diet to balance the body in spring:

+Oily and Liquid with Astringent and Bitter
+Smooth and Dense with Dry and Rough
When these qualities are balanced, we can look forward to a time of renewal and invigoration.
